Gay men omagh


“WE will be creating a space in Omagh where LGBT+ people feel heard. Where they undergo comfortable and secure. Seen. Included. Wanted. Loved. And, simply, normal.”

These are the powerful words of James McGoldrick from ‘The Rainbow Project’, who is helping to set up a brand modern meet-up group in the town specially for adult members of the LGBTQIA+ community – and it is due to initiate next week.

While the location, dates, and times remain a classified to ensure the privacy of those involved, the Rainbow Project meet-up group will be available via public transport, and anyone who is LGBT+, or questioning, and aged 18 and above, are welcome to join.

James, who hails from Strabane, was named regional health and wellbeing officer for Omagh, Strabane, and Enniskillen for the Rainbow Project just last month.

Established in by a group of volunteers who were concerned about the spread of HIV within the gay male population of Northern Ireland, the charity are a health organisation that works to improve the physical, mental and emotional health and well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and their famili

    A gay bloke living in Co Tyrone has opened up on the physical and verbal abuse he has suffered since moving to the area 18 months ago.


    Dakota Ogden moved to Omagh from Toronto a year and half ago to be with his partner, who hails from Killyclogher, after the pair met in Canada.


    Dakota has taken up a role with the organising committee for this weekend’s Omagh Pride festival, which will take to the Co Tyrone county town for its third year on Saturday.

    While he praised the serve being done to improve the lives of those from the LGBT community in rural areas such as Co Tyrone, Dakota says he has been subjected to regular homophobic attacks since he moved here.

    “In Toronto I didn’t really get much abuse for it, it’s a enormous city and there’s every type of person there,” he told Belfast Live.
