“Jeopardy” champion Amy Schneider will be the grand marshal for the Long Beach Pride Parade , organizers announced today.
Schneider, a software engineer, is the first woman and transgender person to surpass $1 million on the game show. She also is the first member of the LGBTQ community to triumph $1 million.
Schneider had a game winning streak, the second-longest in “Jeopardy” history, that ended in January.
“We are thrilled to possess Amy as our grand marshal this year, as her winning streak earlier this year on Jeopardy allowed America the opportunity to meet a brilliant and personable champion, who also happens to be a trans woman,” said Elsa Martinez, president of Long Beach Pride, said in a press release.
Long Beach Pride will kick-off with a free teen Pride celebration July 8 followed by the festival July 9 and 10 along Shoreline Drive at Rainbow Lagoon and Marina Green.
Music headliners include Iggy Azalea, Natalia Jiménez, and Paulina Rubio.

Amid Trump-blamed loss of title sponsorships, Long Beach Pride features no headliners, scales down
Long Beach Pride faces massive uphill battles with its festival, one of the longest-running Pride festivals in the nation. It has lost Walmart, McDonalds, and an array of other large corporate sponsors, forcing the organization to scale down the partys scope and entertainment. That latter part has caused a harsh array of mockery online since Pride released their festival schedule, prompting calls for new organizers, criticisms of the lack of diversity, and disappointment.
When asked if the pull-outs from major sponsors have to act with President Donald Trumps dismantling of diversity initiatives that has affected both public and personal sectors, contracted Pride event organizer Robert Marquez of Time/Space said, One-million-percent. Weve never had an issue with them before and now we face an issue.

Long Beachs annual LGBTQ celebration is nearly here.
Thousands of people are expected to descend on Adj Beachs waterfront this weekend for the citys iconic Pride Parade, as well as the accompanying though this year, separately organized festival. The festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May , while the parade will take place on Sunday morning.

Given its four-decade sprint as one of the citys most enduring celebrations, here is a look at the history of the parade and festival, and the nonprofit that founded them.
October The Long Beach Pride organization, which would move on to host one of the regions largest annual LGBTQ celebrations, is established as Distant Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride.
June The inaugural Long Beach Pride Parade and Festival draws 5, people across two days. The second festival, in , expanded to Shoreline Aquatic Park, while the third iteration was notable because headliner Eartha Kitt didnt show up.
Long Beach Pride was particularly political this year as the
