Jonathan Bennett to Star in Hallmarks First Gay-Themed Movie
Jonathan Bennett, best known for his role as Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls, says his upcoming trilogy of films,The Groomsmen, will feature the first gay-centric main storyline in a Hallmark Channel movie.
Bennett, 43, told People that he will play the character of Danny in the films, starring alongside Tyler Hynes and B.J. Britt, who include previously starred in other Hallmark Channel films.

CV NEWS FEED // The Hallmark Channel on Saturday released the television film “Christmas on Cherry Lane,” which features a same-sex couple.
“‘Christmas on Cherry Lane’ follows the stories of three couples played by a stellar cast of characters,” stated a glowing review published by the tabloid magazine Woman’s World Thursday.
The review went on to indicate that the LGBTQ-friendly flick is “filled with a star-studded cast, three heartwarming stories and good aged fashioned Christmas cheer.”
One of the stories revolves around two men named Mike and Zian, whom the review says are “thrilled when given the opportunity to grow their family.” It is unclear whether the two men are in a “marriage.”
The film’s character Mike is portrayed by Jonathan Bennett. He has previously starred in several Hallmark films, including last year’s “The Holiday Sitter,” the first film on the channel to heavily feature an LGBTQ couple.
The actor praised his frequent employer for producing what he called “authentically queer” content.

Have there ever been any Hallmark Channel shows or movies featuring a gay, lesbian or transgender romantic storyline?

I suppose it’s possible, but given their programming content, and what I realize about Hallmark, it’s pretty unlikely. Hallmark is a really conservative, traditional company, and they don’t even depict (or even suggest) premarital heterosexual sex in their films.

There hasn’t been any. But that may change.
There was a controversy involving the Hallmark Channel a couple of months ago. They refused to air a commercial featured a same-sex couple getting married. This caused a significant protest.
And Hallmark listened. They publicly reversed their decision and aired the commercial. They announced their initial decision had been wrong. And they also announced they were now “open” to airing movies that depict same-sex relationships.
