Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Rights Committee

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Rights Committee addresses legal and policy issues in legal institutions and in the court system that affect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals. Our Committee has issued reports in favor of proposals to expand LGBTQ rights, while also opposing proposals to increase opportunities for discrimination. We joined numerous other Municipality Bar Committees in supporting the repeal of Civil Rights Law a, which shielded disclosure of police misconduct records, until it was successfully repealed in June In early , we held an event on intersex rights and put forth a state supporting an education campaign on medically unnecessary surgeries for intersex children, a bill which the City Council passed in April In addition, we updated and reissued our report supporting the repeal of New York&#;s law against loitering for the purposes of prostitution, popularly known as the “Walking While Trans Ban” because of its discriminatory impact, primarily on transgender

This guide is an introduction to archives and printed materials held at the Central Library and elsewhere relating to the history of the city's LGBT Community.

The history of the Manchester's LBGT community is an important part of the social and cultural history of the city and the North West. We have the United Kingdom's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community outside London and is renowned for its Gay Village centred around Canal Street. It is the home of festivals such as Pride, queerupnorth and Get Bent, as well as celebrations around LGBT History Month.

The LGBT Foundation is the UK's biggest LGBT charity (based on Richmond Street), while The Adj Trust has supported our young people at the Gay Centre on Sidney Street for more than 30 years. Manchester was the birthplace of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality in and we were hugely influential in the campaign against Clause 28 in the late s

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and others (LGBTQ+)

LGBTQ+ network group will be involved in supporting convert and making a difference within City Health Care Partnership CIC. 

The group supports LGBTQ+ colleagues within the organisation to share ideas and raise awareness of challenges. The Chair and Deputy Chair will attend the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion steering group which currently meets quarterly, with direct reporting into the executive board.

We will:

  • raise the voices of LGBTQ+ group and promote involvement in organisational discussion and decision making to support the improvement of equality and health and wellbeing for the staff
  • provide support for colleagues who may have similar personal/work related experiences
  • provide a harmless environment to discuss concerns
  • link with national LGBTQ+ networks

    Mayor’s Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning Affairs

    Japer proudly serves and advocates for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies as the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Affairs, in the Mayor Muriel E. Bowser administration. With a background as a former elected official and accomplished public affairs professional, Japer leads a dedicated team to serve the nation’s largest LGBTQIA+ community, per capita and over LGBTQIA+ programs and organizations.

    Since Japer's appointment, the office has become the largest LGBTQIA+ community affairs agency in the nation–tripling its budget, doubling its staff, and serving over 25, residents annually through the grants program. MOLGBTQA is also the largest local LGBTQIA+ dedicated funding organization in the DC region, administering more than $1,, annually.

    Before joining the Bowser Administration, Japer co-founded and led the DC LGBTQ+ Budget Coalition, securing over $10,, in investments for the community, including the Trans workforce initiative
